Flooring services in Wheat Ridge

If you live in Wheat Ridge, there is a good chance your house has hardwood under the carpet. The city is full of mid-century homes where oak was the standard floor, and a decades-old carpet has been quietly protecting it. Peeling back a corner often turns out to be the best flooring decision of the year.

Flow Flooring Pros is a Denver Metro flooring installation team, and Wheat Ridge is only about 7 miles from downtown Denver, right inside the 45 miles we serve. We lean into the restoration side here: sanding and refinishing, board repair, matching new wood into old, and rebuilding stairs, alongside LVP, laminate and engineered wood where that makes more sense.

Send us photos of a lifted carpet corner or a worn spot, and we can give you a quick pricing idea. A free in-home estimate follows when you want an exact plan.

Wheat Ridge homes and their floors

Most of Wheat Ridge was built between the late 1940s and the 1960s, and the pattern is consistent: brick or frame ranches, 1.5-story cottages and small split-levels on generous lots. Original floors are typically three-quarter-inch solid oak in narrow strips, often with thick finish worn through in traffic paths. They are exactly the kind of floors that respond well to a full sand and refinish, sometimes more than once over their lifetime.

Applewood and the foothill-facing areas have larger lots and a mix of ranch and custom homes, some with additions that changed the floor level or the wood species from room to room. Additions are where we most often see mismatched flooring, and it is where our blending and transition work earns its keep.

Things to plan for in Wheat Ridge

Old oak in a dry climate has seen it all. The boards have been through decades of Colorado winters, and some gaps between planks are simply the wood doing its seasonal job. Our approach is to refinish, not to chase every gap. We can fill larger gaps with strips or flexible filler, but a small amount of movement is part of owning real wood.

Many Wheat Ridge homes sit over crawl spaces, and the condition of those spaces directly affects the floor above. Poor drainage or missing vapor barriers can leave wood cupped or stained. We recommend checking the crawl space before investing in refinishing, and if you see standing water or mold, address that first.

Homes built before the 1980s may have flooring, adhesives or mastic that contain asbestos, and older finishes or paint may contain lead. If you plan to remove old tile, sheet vinyl or glued-down material, the safe step is to have it tested by a qualified lab before disturbing it. Wood that was never covered is not a concern in the same way.

Wheat Ridge also has a number of older condominiums and apartments along some of the main corridors. Many associations require acoustic underlayment for hard floors above other units, so check your documents first. We can plan the underlayment and transitions to meet whatever the rule demands.

Wheat Ridge flooring FAQ

Can I tell whether I have hardwood under my carpet?

Often you can. Lift a corner in a closet or near a doorway, or remove a heating register cover and look at the exposed floor. If you see narrow strips of wood with nails, you probably have hardwood, and we can check its condition.

How many times can oak floors be refinished?

Solid three-quarter-inch oak can usually be sanded several times over its life, because it has a deep wear layer. We measure the remaining thickness before refinishing, and a lighter screening may be enough for floors that are only dull.

Is Wheat Ridge inside your service area?

Yes. Wheat Ridge is about 7 miles from downtown Denver, one of the closest cities we serve inside the 45 miles of coverage. We offer free in-home estimates, and photos by text help us give you a quick pricing idea.

Can you match new wood to my existing oak floor?

In most cases we can get close by choosing the same species and width, weaving boards together, and staining or finishing both to match. Perfect matches are not guaranteed on very old floors, but a good blend is typical.

What about old flooring that might contain asbestos?

Homes from this era may have asbestos in some tile or mastic. If we find material that looks suspect, we stop and recommend testing with a certified lab before any removal, so you can make a safe decision.

Do you refinish stairs as part of a hardwood project?

Yes. We often sand and refinish stair treads along with the main floor, or replace worn treads and risers. Doing both together gives a consistent finish and avoids stains that do not match between floors.
