A new floor is only as good as the slab or subfloor beneath it. In the Denver area, basements and slab-on-grade rooms often have high spots, low spots, old adhesive, paint or patches that show through vinyl, laminate or engineered wood. Grinding removes high areas and residue, and leveling compound fills low areas, giving the flooring a flat surface that helps joints stay tight.
Colorado soils and construction add their own wrinkles. Expansive clay soils in parts of the Front Range can contribute to slab movement, and cracks or uneven areas are common in older homes. Moisture testing is a key step: a slab that looks dry may still emit enough moisture to harm glued flooring, so we check before choosing products and methods. Cracks, structural movement or standing water are separate issues to address first.
Dust is a real concern during grinding. We use dust control and plan the work area so it does not spread through your home. Leveling compound needs time to cure before flooring goes over it, and we give you a schedule that fits with your installer, whether that is us or another installer.

Flooring like LVP, laminate and engineered wood follows the surface below. High spots, dips and leftover glue can cause visible bumps, gaps or loose joints. Grinding and leveling gives the new floor a flat, clean base.
Manufacturers typically specify a tolerance over a certain span, such as a small variation over several feet, and wider planks are more demanding. We measure the slab and compare it to the flooring maker's requirements.
Yes. Moisture testing helps decide whether the slab needs a moisture barrier before flooring goes down. This matters in Colorado basements, where moisture levels can change with the seasons and drainage.
Often, yes. Grinding can remove many coatings and adhesive residues, depending on the type. Some older adhesives need special handling, so we identify the material before starting.
Cure time depends on the product and the thickness applied, and ranges from hours to a day or more. We follow the manufacturer's schedule and coordinate with the flooring install.
